Swedish speaker manufacturer continues its sustainability mission by reusing returned units and giving them new life. Its latest environmental report details strong progress against its goals.

In 2020, Swedish speaker manufacturer Audio Pro started a collaboration with GIAB Returhuset. This project aims to reuse speakers that for various reasons have had a very short lifecycle – coming back to Audio Pro for a range of reasons, including returns.

Of course, a returned product can never be sold as a new one, even if the product is in perfect condition. However, it would be a huge waste of resources to let such products be discarded or recycled. The cooperation with GIAB means the speaker can be given a new life, by the product being reviewed, repaired if necessary and then sold as a recycled product.

Its latest Sustainability Report shows in 2022 Audio Pro succeeded in reusing 90.5% of the returned products via GIAB Returhuset. The remaining 9.5% was sent for recycling. Through this sustainability work, Audio Pro has thus made climate savings of 4 tons, which corresponds to the amount of CO2 that 200 normal-sized trees in northern Europe take up in a year.

Jens Henriksen, CCO at Audio Pro explains the company's thoughts on recycling; "Our way of consuming goods causes a large burden on our environment, and by cooperating with partners who can help us contribute to a lower environmental burden, we can do our part in mitigating this climate impact. Recycling seems like an obvious component of running a business in today's society, and we also believe that customers increasingly expect this from us as producers. Every year we learn more and more about how to contribute, and GIAB is good at helping us in our environmental work."

"GIAB has shown us how we can act more circularly. Our industry, just like many others, is expected to suffer from a lack of necessary materials and components in the future as the use of materials increases exponentially. This will mean that in the near future all producers will have to start working according to more circular ways of working, where recycling, reuse and sustainable design are the norm. By reusing and recycling our speakers in this way, we are already starting to act in a more environmentally smart way." says Jens Henriksen.
